HARMAN Pune Automotive Manufacturing Plant

Pune: HARMAN, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd. and a global leader in connected automotive technology, has announced an investment of ₹345 crore (USD 42 million) to expand the HARMAN Pune Automotive Manufacturing Plant located in Chakan.

With this expansion, the company’s cumulative investment in the facility reaches ₹554 crore (USD 67 million), underscoring India’s growing importance in the global connected and sustainable mobility ecosystem.

Inaugurated by Christian Sobottka, CEO and President of Automotive, HARMAN, the newly expanded HARMAN Pune Automotive Manufacturing Plant increases production capacity by more than 50%.

By 2027, HARMAN Pune automotive manufacturing plant is expected to deliver an annual output of four million car audio components, 1.4 million infotainment units, and 0.8 million Telematics Control Units (TCUs).

The expansion will also create 300 new employment opportunities, enhancing the local manufacturing and engineering ecosystem in Pune.

The latest investment includes ₹45 crore (USD 5.5 million) for immediate capacity enhancement and ₹300 crore (USD 36.5 million) to be invested over the next three years for advanced telematics and connectivity programs.

The move aligns closely with the Government of India’s “Make in India, for the World” mission, reinforcing the country’s position as a manufacturing hub for next-generation automotive technologies.

Expansion of HARMAN Pune Automotive Manufacturing Plant to Boost Capacity and Employment

The expansion will also support the production of HARMAN Ready Connect, a pre-developed, all-in-one Telematics Control Unit co-developed with Samsung.

The product offers 4G and 5G telematics capabilities, over-the-air (OTA) updates, integrated cybersecurity, diagnostics, and cloud connectivity. It also integrates with HARMAN Ready Aware to deliver real-time vehicle-to-network (V2N) alerts for enhanced safety.

HARMAN Ready Connect has already been adopted by leading OEMs across Asia and North America, with India’s engineering teams playing a crucial role in its design, validation, and deployment.

Advanced Manufacturing and Sustainable Operations

The expanded HARMAN Pune Automotive Manufacturing Plant adds 71,505 sq. ft. of new built-up area, including a 45,000 sq. ft. production shop floor equipped with four new SMT lines and additional capabilities such as module production and speaker assembly.

Aligned with HARMAN’s global “Sound Purpose” ESG framework, the Pune facility is on track to achieve 100% renewable electricity usage by 2030. It has already installed solar panels generating over 317,000 KWh annually, cutting nearly 200 metric tons of CO₂ emissions. The facility’s energy efficiency initiatives have earned it the CII Award for Energy Efficient Unit.

India’s Strategic Role in HARMAN’s Global Automotive Operations

With over 5,000 automotive engineers across India, HARMAN’s operations in the country encompass product management, software and hardware development, and manufacturing.

Krishna Kumar, Managing Director and Automotive Head at HARMAN India, emphasized India’s central role in global innovation, stating, “India is where HARMAN designs, builds, and exports the next generation of in-car experiences for the world.”

The HARMAN Pune Automotive Manufacturing Plant complements the company’s global production network spanning China, Hungary, Mexico, Brazil, and Germany.
